MESOPOTAMIA

                                                 Mesopotamia
Mesopotamia is a name for the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, it also means ''between the rivers'' in Greek. Mesopotamia included Sumer, and the Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian empires. At about 150 BC, Mesopotamia was under the control of the Parthians. It also became a battlefield between the Romans and the Parthians, with parts of Mesopotamia coming under the Roman's control. The earliest language written in Mesopotamia was Sumerian. Along with Sumerians, Semitic languages were also spoken in early Mesopotamia.

Ancient Mesopotamians had ceremonies every month, as they would often have Festivals as well. Mesopotamians would believe that their king and queens would descend from the City of Gods, unlike the ancient Egyptians who don’t believe that their kings were real gods. Sumerians were agricultural people, so they ate what they farmed: wheat, barley, lentils, beans, garlic, and milk products. Only the wealthy would eat meat.

Cricket for ICT

Cricket
The sport we are currently studying in gym is Cricket. Cricket is not the same as baseball. We first learned about the way to bat in cricket. The bat should not be held up but towards the ground.

Cricket does not have bases but it has wickets. If you or the ball touch the wicket your out. The pitchers in Cricket are called ballers. Instead of running without the bat, but in Cricket you have to run with the bat. Most countries that play cricket are India and England.
Cricket. Cricket was once Canada's national sport.

The Circulatory System
The circulatory system is an essential part of your body. If it weren’t for your circulatory system, blood wouldn’t flow through your body. Blood carries oxygen which is necessary for “cellular respiration,” which is the process in which energy for a cell is produced. If you couldn’t produce energy you would die because none of your organs or systems would be able to function. Without the circulatory system, humans wouldn’t survive.

The circulatory system consists of many different blood vessels. Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart but one artery, the pulmonary artery, carries deoxygenated blood. Veins carry deoxygenated blood toward the heart but just like arteries, the pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood. Since veins don’t have the pressure from the heart’s pump to direct the blood one direction, the veins have valves inside of them that direct the blood one way. Lastly we have capillaries which are the site of gas exchange and the most plentiful blood vessel; since every cell needs to exchange gases, every cell has to be contacting a capillary.

Flowing through these blood vessels are many different types of blood cells. Red blood cells or “Erythrocytes” contain haemoglobin which allows them to carry lots of oxygen to your cells and lots of carbon dioxide away from your cells. White blood cells or “Leukocytes” fight diseases and foreign agents in the body; for example, if you get a cut and some dirt gets inside the wound then your white blood cells break down the dirt. We also have platelets or “Thrombocytes” which clot blood by making a net that traps the blood cells, they also heal wounds after clotting the blood. Blood which seems to be made of one substance is actually made up of many different substances.

Various organs are involved in the circulations of blood. The lungs are where red blood cells get their oxygen from and where they get rid of carbon dioxide. The pulmonary blood vessels go to and from the lungs; the heart pumps the blood through the pulmonary arteries to the lungs and gets it back via the pulmonary veins. The heart pumps blood through your blood vessels, without your heart all of your blood would collect at your feet because of gravity. Also, every cell has to be contacting a capillary, so in a sense every organ has something to do with the circulatory system,

Celebrity Views
Very recently we read a story called “Here’s to You, Joe DiMaggio” written by Paul Simon. After we had read the story we had a slight discussion on modern celebrities and how they are being portrayed today.

Celebrities today are clearly not being depicted in a fair way nor are they being realistic. Though we see a lot of bad publicity for many celebrities, do we really know the whole story? Many paparazzi’s exaggerate a story to attract… well us. I bet half of us has grabbed a magazine because we see something intriguing on the cover. Like Kim Kardashian’s divorced Kanye’s sorry butt or Selena Gomez pregnant with Justin Bieber’s child. If I saw that in Walmart I’d totally take a look. Chances are what they’re saying is total baloney… if people say that still. So it’s very hard to trust the media for factual information.

I am completely guilty of this and I am positive that I am not the only one. Looking up to people just because of their visual appeal or success rate. What cha talking about Mikka? Well I’m pretty sure the main reason why Justin Bieber or One Direction became worldwide famous is because they look attractive. Same goes for Megan Fox and any of the Kardashians. As much as we want to deny the fact we look up to these people because of their appearance I think I made a pretty much sealed the deal when I said Megan Fox. Though it’s hard to look at a person personally from a far combined with the publicity that’s given we should try to base the thing we admire about them through personality.

Point being, we barely know anything about these people. What they go through day by day, the challenges they have to face, the reasons behind why they did what they did. We might see the image they try to portray to the media or what the media makes them look. But we don’t know what happens behind all that. So we are not any position to judge nor hate at them. Thank you for listening to me. Hope you have a great day!
