My Three Favourite Memories

My Three Favourite Memories

I have a lot of good memories. However, these three stand out to me the most. One of my favourite memories was going to the Philippines in grade 3. Another one of my favourite memories was performing a solo cultural dance at the Manitoba Filipino Street Festival. The last memory (and the most recent memory) was the arrival of my uncle and his family into Canada.

One of my favourite memories was going to the Philippines in grade 3. Even though I went 5 years ago, I still remember a lot of things. It was also the first time that I flew in an airplane. I hated that experience because I felt really nauseous. While in the Philippines, I got to meet many of my relatives that I haven’t met before, because I was born here. My family and I went to many places with our other relatives. The warm weather was a good break from the cold Winnipeg weather. I’m excited to go again this summer.

Another one of my favourite memories was performing a solo cultural dance at the Manitoba Filipino Street Festival. The dance was called Singkil which is from a different part in the Philippines than where my parents are from. I remember preparing for this dance for many weeks leading up to the festival. My favourite part of the dance was being carried on bamboo sticks because I played the part of the queen. I had to pose a certain way on it to show that I was “royalty.”  It was really nerve-wracking with everyone paying attention to me. I had really fun performing this dance.

My most recent memory out of my top 3 was the arrival of my uncle and his family into Canada. My parents cooked a lot of food to celebrate their arrival. A lot of people were going to be coming over to welcome them. We drove to the airport at 11 pm at night and actually came after their plane arrived. When we saw them, we ran up to them and hugged them immediately. We collected their luggage and went back to our house. I got a lot of stuff sent for me from my relatives because they love to spoil my brother and I. People left our house at around 4 am. It was a good way to welcome them to Canada.

Thank you for listening J
